The American Stroke Association has created the warmline (as opposed to a hotline you might use in a crisis… if you think you’re having a stroke, call 9-1-1!) The Warmline is staffed by stroke survivors and family caregivers who have been where you are. They understand the fear, the frustration, the uncertainty. They have survived and even thrived after a stroke.

The call representatives can direct you to resources, answer questions, supply you with information and connect you to others who can help you too.

Train to End Stroke is a great program that helps you prepare to WALK or RUN a 10k, half marathon, or full marathon while you raise lifesaving funds for stroke research and education!

Here is how it works:

You pay a $100 registration fee and cover the cost of your race entry.

We provide you with weekly training clubs, mentor support, professional coach support, nutritionists, helpful clinics, materials to spread the word about what you’re doing, and LOTS of fun!

Every participant makes a good faith effort to raise funds. If their personal goal is not met, we do NOT charge your credit card or preclude you from the event.

There are no more excuses!!!

How do you know if you or a loved one is having a stroke? From the American Stroke Association website, here are the warning signs:

Stroke Warning Signs
The American Stroke Association says these are the warning signs of stroke:

• Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body   
• Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding   
• Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes   
• Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination   
• Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

If you or someone with you has one or more of these signs, don’t delay! Immediately call 9-1-1 or the emergency medical services (EMS) number so an ambulance (ideally with advanced life support) can be sent for you. Also, check the time so you’ll know when the first symptoms appeared. It’s very important to take immediate action. If given within three hours of the start of symptoms, a clot-busting drug called tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) can reduce long-term disability for the most common type of stroke. tPA is the only FDA-approved medication for the treatment of stroke within three hours of stroke symptom onset.
